Joshua Blum

Joshua Blum’s practice focuses on complex commercial litigation including intellectual property, online medium, entertainment, and general business disputes. Blum represents a wide range of clients, in many different industries, including sports, entertainment, fashion and modeling, and aviation, as well as corporate executives and entrepreneurs, before state and federal courts, arbitration panels, and government agencies.

Blum began his legal career as a litigator in New York, where he handled a variety of litigation matters.

He later moved to Los Angeles where he joined an entertainment and business litigation firm with offices in New York and Los Angeles. While there, he handled a variety of entertainment litigation matters including intellectual property infringement claims, breach of music licensing and distribution agreements, and disputes between artists and producers.

In a move that combined his entertainment and business litigation backgrounds, Blum then joined an entertainment and business boutique litigation firm in Los Angeles. Blum handled highly contentious entertainment matters that were often in the headlines. Additionally, he also handled several complex commercial litigation matters in the areas of intellectual property, finance, real estate, and class-action defense.

Now established in his own law firm, Blum believes clients deserve a dedicated, zealous advocate who solves legal problems in fresh, innovative ways. That philosophy applies whether a client is a high-tech company, brick-and-mortar business, or an individual. It is a belief that has led to the successful outcomes he has obtained for his clients.

Here are examples of Blum’s successes:

  • Obtained dismissal of breach of contract claims asserted against a high-profile attorney and subsequently prosecuted malicious prosecution claims against the opposing party, securing a large settlement for the client.
  • Represented a high-profile former professional athlete in a trademark dispute against another world-famous professional athlete, successfully settling the dispute with the opposing party agreeing to permanently cease use of the trademark, safeguarding the client’s brand rights.
  • Secured dismissal of a complaint filed by the former members of a highly successful musical group, which had included 16 claims asserted against their music producer and songwriter, effectively protecting the client’s legal rights.
  • Represented a talent management company and an employee sued by a competing talent management company for tortious interference with contract. The plaintiff model management company sought a temporary restraining order, which was successfully defeated; and upon filing a motion to dismiss, the plaintiff dismissed the entire action with prejudice and without receiving any compensation.
  • Represented a world-renowned professional athlete and Olympian in a dispute with a professional sports league over ownership rights, achieving a successful resolution before litigation commenced.
  • Achieved dismissal of a copyright infringement lawsuit asserted against an art dealer by the dealer’s former client. The artist had asserted eight claims, all of which were dismissed with prejudice in favor of the defendants
  • Represented a lender suing its debtor and various related entities arising out of a breach of a loan agreement, successfully obtaining a seven-figure settlement of the action prior to trial.
  • Represented individuals against a Fortune 500 subsidiary, successfully obtaining a seven-figure settlement of the claims prior to trial.
  • Disqualified an airline’s lead trial counsel from representing the airline at the trial in a breach of contract suit by successfully arguing New York’s witness advocate rule applied because the airline’s lawyer had been a key participant in communications central to the action, ensuring a fair trial process.
  • Represented a talent manager against a former recording artist client for breach of contract, successfully obtaining a pre-litigation settlement for commissions due, ensuring the client’s contractual rights were upheld.
